Correction Regarding Marriott Benefits |

Last month we did an article about benefits when you
buy a Marriott Timber Lodge timeshare on the resale
market. The incentive for the story was all of the
misinformation and outright lies currently being
circulated about Marriott benefits to discourage new
buyers from the resale market. It is true that the
benefits are not exactly the same. If you purchase
your Marriott timeshare on the resale market, you may
not exchange for Marriott Hotel Points. However, this is
not to your advantage. You have to exchange your
prime week, seven nights in a luxurious one or two
bedroom villa for two to four nights in a hotel room.
You are also required to pay a fee to make this
unfavorable transaction. Is this really a benefit?

It is very sad to hear the frequent stories from
timeshare sellers who paid an upfront fee and received
nothing in return. Some have paid as much as $699 to
thieves disguised as timeshare resale brokers. They will
lure you in with an exorbitant sales price that is well

nonrefundable appraisal or listing fees, then do

Thank you for reading our newsletter. Here is an
update on the progress of the Convention Center
project in South Lake Tahoe. The South Lake Tahoe
City Council - Redevelopment Agency approved the
$410 million complex on July 11. The Tahoe Regional
Planning Agency (TRPA) gave their approval on July
26. The developer, Lake Tahoe Development
Corporation has acquired 29 of the 34 parcels in the
11.36-acre project area in California, adjacent to the
Nevada State Line and Harvey's Lake Tahoe Casino
Resort. The owners of the five remaining parcels are
still holding out. This includes the lot where the
Paradise main office is located. We lease this space
and do not own the property.
On September 6, the South Lake Tahoe Redevelopment
Agency took the first step towards using eminent
domain to acquire these five parcels. They unanimously
approved five resolutions to buy the land on Lake
Tahoe Boulevard and Friday Avenue. This property is
estimated to be worth at least $8.5 million. Lake Tahoe
Development Corporation will reimburse the city of
South Lake Tahoe if eminent domain is used to acquire
the land. One of the landowners has pledged a legal
fight if the city does follow through with eminent
domain. This legal taking of private property by
government to eliminate blight in a community is being
challenged in California on November's election ballot.
Meanwhile, structures on some of the 29 parcels
acquired have already been scraped. Motels and
businesses are closing. You can rest assured that
